The Role:

The Trailer Jockey moves trailers to and from dock doors based on instructions from supervisors or the shipping office while following all regulatory and company safety standards, policies, and procedures. Always ensure the cleanliness and adequate fueling of trailers.

Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:

• Check/set trailer and yard temperature, add fuel if needed.

• Perform daily inspections on spotter trucks and equipment.

• Report defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to vehicles and/or equipment.

• Maintain logs of trailer movements and fuel.

• Communicate with appropriate departments on daily trailer movement.

• Check trailer inventory and report any irregularities on log forms.

• Assist on the docks and in the warehouse on an as needed basis.

• Perform sanitation duties on trailers as assigned.

Requirements of the Position:

• Six months of operating tractor trailers and/or heavy equipment experience

• Experience in a cold storage facility a plus.

• Proficient in operating warehouse equipment, such as forklifts, high reach, and pallet jacks.

• Forklift Certification (pallet jack or high reach) preferred with the ability to attain one upon hire.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Must be 18 years or older.

• Must have a valid US driver’s license.

• Must read, write, speak and understand English.

Work Requirements:

• Must be able to pass a background check.

• Must be flexible and be able to work overtime.

• Must be willing to work weekends and evenings.

• Ability to work well under pressure.

• Dress code is relaxed with a few rules to follow for safety; comfortable, closed-toe shoes are required.

Work Environment:

Works in a cold storage facility with exposure to low to below zero temperatures. This job may involve occasional exposure to some disagreeable elements such as dust, noise, etc. Accidents are improbable other than minor injuries. Environment may be fast paced at times. You will be working around moving machines, order pickers and forklifts.
